A 9 movement work on texts excerpted and adapted from Justice Kennedy’s opinion of the court in Obergefell v. Hodges, the Alternative Service Book, and 5 U.S. Code §3331. Dedicated to Mary Hanna-Weir and commissioned by the Santa Clara Chorale for their 60th season. First performance by the Santa Clara Chorale, Santa Clara University Chamber Singers, and San José Chamber Orchestra in May 2023. East Coast premiere [string quintet version] by Allan Laiño and the Congressional Chorus in Washington, DC in March 2024. See the complete libretto here.

The Water Project (SATB choir, electronics) [2022]

A multi-disciplinary collaborative theater and dance project with a team of faculty from Santa Clara University. The premiere was given in the fall of 2022 at the Mayer Theatre on the campus of Santa Clara University. Singers on the project were the San Francisco Bay Area Chamber Choir.

The Wound (SATB div) [2017]

A setting of Ruth Stone’s poem by the same name, the Wound deals with the shock after a traumatic experience, and was written as part of the San Diego Pro Arte Voices Disarm Hate project in response to gun violence and suicide.

Buck v Bell (SATB + String Quartet, Piano, Marimba) [2017]

A setting of the 1927 Supreme Court decision by Oliver Wendell Holmes, Buck v Bell upheld the legality of sterilizing the mentally “feeble”. First presented as a performance/discussion in collaboration with the SCU Law School, the Markkula Center for Applied Ethics, the Gerald and Sally DeNardo Lectureship, and the SCU Music Department, it was then performed again at the 2017 SCU Voices concert. Both performances were by the SCU Chamber Singers.

Il Bianco e Dolce Cigno… e Dolce Cigno… (SATB + live looping electronics) [2015]

Composed by Scot with electronics realized by Bruno Ruviaro, the piece is based on Jacques Arcadelt’s Il Bianco e Dolce Cigno and then uses electronics to capture audio live and play it back to create a double choir with a single ensemble. More information is available about the piece on its GitHub page.
