Information about the many collaborations between the Scot(t)s (Scot Hanna-Weir and Scott Gendel) including recent commissions with the Santa Clara University Chamber Singers and their past collaboration with All Souls Church in DC.
#dreamsongs (2014)
Nick Lantz’s poetry as part of his poem a day project on twitter served as the inspiration for eight miniatures composed by Scott for the SCU Chamber Singers. The pieces are SATB with some divisi and accompanied by cello and piano. The pieces were premiered on March 5, 2015 as part of #tweet.
Just Delicate Needles (2013)
Scott accepted the task of writing an accompanied piece about light to sit between Eric Whitacre’s Lux Aurumque and Morten Lauridsen’s Sure on this Shining Night. He came up with his beautiful setting of Just Delicate Needles.
All Souls (2012)
As the second large work that Scot programmed for the All Souls Choir and Orchestra at All Souls Church, Unitarian in Washington, DC, he sought out Scott Gendel to write a mid-length cantata on themes deeply rooted in the vision of the church. The result was a lovely set of five movements on the poetry of Langston Hughes and Wendell Berry, set beautifully by Scott for SATB Choir, Soprano, Baritone, Strings, Piano, and Percussion.
